Scam alert provided by our friends at KnowBe4

Olympic Games Paris 2024 begins today and cyberscriminals are phishing to score gold medals. Scammers are taking advantage of all the excitement to try to steal your personal information or money. Be on the lookout for phishing emails and text messages pointing you to fake Olympics-branded websites or offering discounted merchandise.

Billions of cyberattacks were launched during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and this year’s event is proving to be just as popular. Online criminal activity has already increased, with fake Olympics tickets being advertised, counterfeit Olympics-branded websites appearing, and stolen personal information being sold online.

If you know someone traveling to Paris to watch the Games, tell them to be aware of increased cybersecurity risks in the city - public Wi-Fi networks can be hacked to steal your personal data!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to any Olympics-related scams:

  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails or messages about deals. If something seems too good to be true, it is.
  • Only purchase merchandise and souvenirs from official websites or vendors.
  • If you are traveling to the event, avoid using public Wi-Fi networks or hotspots. These networks can be compromised by cybercriminals.

If you suspect fraud on your bank account:

  • Contact your bank immediately to report suspected fraud and unauthorized transactions.
    • Security Bank customes call 918.664.6100 or 1.888.263.3370 if after hours.
  • Report fraud to the Federal Trade Commission to help stop the scammer.

Stay safe. Stay alert to avoid Olympic phishing scams.
